An 18-year-old Georgia man was fatally stabbed after reportedly kicking another man’s shopping cart, according to authorities.
The Chatham County Police Department said 48-year-old Delano Middleton was arrested after an altercation on Oct. 23 at a Walmart, during which the teenager, identified as J.T. Schroeder, was stabbed. Schroeder later died from his injuries.
Investigators said Middleton was leaving the store when Schroeder allegedly kicked his shopping cart. Officers responding to the scene found Schroeder suffering from multiple stab wounds and lacerations.
Following Schroeder’s death, Middleton was charged with murder, per Chatham County court records. It is unclear whether he has entered a plea, and no attorney was listed for him at the time of the report.
Schroeder’s father, also named J.T. Schroeder, told WJCL that police accounts do not fully capture what happened.
“My son was never, ever confrontational unless he was confronted first,” he said, adding that he rushed to the Walmart after learning about the attack.
“I got over there as fast as I could and saw blood everywhere,” he recalled. “He was literally stabbed over ten times until he finally bled out and died.”
