One of the biggest Powerball prizes ever has been won!
Two lucky players from Missouri and Texas claimed the $1.787 billion jackpot on Saturday, Sept. 6 — the second-largest prize in U.S. lottery history — after matching all six numbers, according to a press release.
The winning numbers were white balls 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and the red Powerball 17.
The prize will be split between the winners. Each can take a lump sum of $410.3 million or 29 annual payments totaling $893.5 million before taxes. If they choose the annual option, the payments grow by 5% each year.
Before the drawing, the jackpot was estimated at $1.8 billion, making it the second-largest in U.S. history after the $2.04 billion jackpot won in California on Nov. 7, 2022.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are very low — just 1 in 292.2 million.

“Congratulations to our newest Powerball jackpot winners and the Missouri Lottery and Texas Lottery for selling the winning tickets,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO. “Each $2 ticket sold during this Powerball jackpot run gave players a chance at the prize while also supporting important public programs in their communities — and that’s worth celebrating!”
Saturday’s drawing also had more than 9.9 million winning tickets, lottery officials announced.
A total of 18 tickets nationwide won $1 million prizes. These tickets were sold in California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, and West Virginia. Two tickets in Kansas and Texas that matched all five white balls increased their winnings to $2 million each. In addition, 232 tickets won $50,000 prizes.
Saturday’s drawing was the 42nd since the last jackpot was won on May 31, 2025.
After the drawing on Saturday, Aug. 30, one man in North Carolina was just one number away from winning the jackpot. His $50,000 prize tripled to $150,000 thanks to the Powerball multiplier, North Carolina Education Lottery officials said.
Powerball drawings happen on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. EST from the Florida Lottery studio in Tallahassee and are also live streamed on the game’s website.
