New York Hunting Trip Ends in Double Fatal Shooting, Brother Charged with Murder
A hunting trip in rural New York turned deadly when a man allegedly shot and killed his two brothers before fleeing the scene in one of their vehicles, authorities say.
On Monday, Nov. 24, 65-year-old Scot Thompson of Englewood, Fla., was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of second-degree criminal use of a firearm in connection with the deaths of his brothers, 70-year-old Mark B. Thompson of Canterbury, Conn., and 69-year-old David E. Thompson of Port Charlotte, Fla., according to a statement from New York State Police.
The three brothers had been staying at a hunting cabin on Botsford Hollow Road in the town of Allen in Allegany County when an argument allegedly broke out around 10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, police said.
One of the men called 911, but when officers arrived, they discovered two of the brothers dead inside the cabin.
During the dispute, Scot allegedly opened fire with a rifle, fatally shooting his brothers, according to investigators.
Police allege that Scot then left the scene in a vehicle belonging to David.
Deputies and officers from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and the Geneseo Police Department later located the vehicle and arrested Scot at 8:27 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24.
He was turned over to New York State Police Troopers for processing and is currently being held in the Allegany County jail, according to online jail records.
It is not yet known whether he has obtained an attorney to represent him.
