A 3-year-old boy was killed after being attacked by his grandmother’s dog in New York Mills, Minnesota, on Sunday, Jan. 11.
Authorities say the child, Beckett Brown, was bitten when he climbed into an outdoor enclosure where his grandmother Kristen Nelson kept her American bulldog, according to reporting from The Independent. Nelson was also injured as she tried to step in and stop the attack.
Around 1 p.m., Nelson called 911 and told dispatchers she was driving herself and Beckett to the Perham Health Emergency Room, Echo Press reported. Law enforcement met them at the hospital and launched an investigation, which is still ongoing.
Beckett later died from his injuries. Nelson was transported to a hospital in Fargo for treatment of what authorities described as “significant” injuries. No update has been provided on her current condition.
The family later euthanized the dog, authorities said, according to The Star Tribune.
