Four people were killed in a mass shooting Friday morning, Aug. 1, at a Montana bar, according to a statement from the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. local time at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, a small city with fewer than 10,000 residents.
Authorities identified the suspect as Michael Paul Brown, though his age was not disclosed. The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Law Enforcement Center named Brown in a Facebook post, while the DCI noted the suspect “is believed to be armed.”
The Granite County Sheriff’s Office also reported on Facebook that an “active shooter” was present in Anaconda, describing the individual as wearing a tie-dye shirt, blue jeans, and an orange bandana.
According to NBC Montana, the city was placed on lockdown following the shooting. The DCI has urged residents to avoid the area until further notice.
Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte posted on Facebook that he is “closely monitoring the situation involving an active shooter in Anaconda.”
