At least four people were killed and 29 others were injured after a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 25 in Pueblo, Colorado, on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

The Pueblo Police Department closed I-25 between Mile Marker 91 and Mile Marker 94 Tuesday morning following the crash, according to an alert posted on X.

“Crews are working the scene and there is no estimated time of reopening,” the Colorado State Patrol said. Officials added that traffic was being routed onto the frontage road to detour around the closure, and noted that the southbound lanes later reopened. Travelers were also warned that blowing dust and high winds could reduce visibility in the area.

The four victims were identified as two adult men and two adult women, according to a state patrol press release. The men were believed to be from Walsenburg, Colorado, while one woman was from Rye and the other from Pueblo. Authorities have not yet publicly released the victims’ names.

Investigators said 29 passenger vehicles and seven semi trucks were involved. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

After the incident, 29 people were taken to two local hospitals. Officials said seven people suffered serious injuries, while 21 were treated for moderate to minor injuries. One person remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The state patrol said the response required a coordinated effort from multiple agencies, including local police, fire departments, sheriff’s offices, and emergency services teams across the region.
