Police have identified the three people killed in a shooting outside a Target store in North Austin, Texas, on Monday, August 11.
The victims were 65-year-old Adam Chow, his 4-year-old granddaughter Astrid Fung, and 24-year-old Hector Leopoldo Martinez Machuca. According to the Austin Police Department, Martinez Machuca worked at the store and was shot while collecting shopping carts in the parking lot.

Police say the suspect, 32-year-old Ethan Nieneker, then approached a car where Chow was in the driver’s seat with his wife and granddaughter inside. Nieneker allegedly fired into the car, killing Chow and Astrid. Chow’s wife, who had minor injuries, pulled the child from the car before Nieneker stole the vehicle and drove away.
Nieneker later crashed the stolen car, took another vehicle, and attacked several drivers before police caught him in South Austin. Officers say he was naked and refused to follow orders, so they used a Taser to arrest him. He now faces multiple murder charges, including two counts of capital murder.
Astrid’s name was not released by police but was confirmed through a verified GoFundMe fundraiser for the family. The fundraiser’s organizer thanked the community for sending meals and gift cards, and said donations will help cover funeral costs and other expenses.
