An 8-year-old girl in Florida allegedly stabbed her estranged grandmother after the woman broke into the family’s home and attacked the child’s mother, according to authorities.

Around 3 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance call at a residence in Orange Park, the agency said in a Facebook post.

On the 911 call, the woman who phoned for help — the mother of the 8-year-old — could be heard shouting for someone to leave her home.

The caller, whose name has not been released, later told deputies she was involved in a physical confrontation with her estranged biological mother, 62-year-old Serpil Adams, who allegedly arrived at the home uninvited.

According to the sheriff’s office, the woman was at home with her two young children when Adams entered through an unlocked door and allegedly attacked her with a serrated utility knife.

“While attempting to protect her mother, the victim’s 8-year-old daughter retrieved a kitchen knife and stabbed Adams in the upper arm,” the statement alleges.

Authorities say Adams then fled the scene in a vehicle and returned to Jacksonville, where she had been staying with a friend.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office later found Adams at that residence and took her into custody without incident.

Neither the mother nor her two children were injured during the altercation, officials said.

Investigators have not publicly disclosed a possible motive or why Adams allegedly went to her daughter’s home and tried to stab her.

Adams was arrested on Tuesday, Nov. 18, and has been charged with second-degree attempted murder. She is being held at the Clay County jail on a $500,003 bond, according to online jail records.

It is not clear whether she has obtained an attorney to represent her. Adams is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 16.
