A mother of a 3-month-old says a recent family vacation meant to celebrate her mother-in-law’s 75th birthday left her feeling emotionally drained — and completely alone.

In a candid post shared to Reddit, the new mom described the week-long trip with her in-laws as “isolating” and “exhausting,” saying none of the family members offered help with her newborn, despite several having raised children themselves.

“I really wish we hadn’t gone,” she wrote. “There were so many people there with experience raising kids, but no one stepped in to offer help — not even to hold the baby for a few minutes.”

What was supposed to be a bonding family getaway quickly turned into a stressful experience. The woman said her baby’s sleep schedule was ignored when planning activities, and she often found herself left behind.

“They went out to dinner every night without us,” she explained. “It was always, ‘Let’s go to a nice restaurant at 7:30!’ But my baby goes to bed at 7, and the place was 45 minutes away. One night they offered to bring back food — then said they lost track of time and the kitchen had closed. Every other night, we just had to figure something out or eat their leftovers.”

She also noted that she and her husband were repeatedly left out of group photos and day trips, most of which were scheduled during the baby’s naps. “No one wanted to plan anything — they just did things on a whim, which doesn’t work when you have an infant,” she added.

Many Reddit users sympathized with her, encouraging her to speak with a therapist about the experience. “Three months postpartum is still deep in survival mode,” one commenter wrote. “You’re absolutely justified in feeling spent. Traveling with a newborn and getting no help — that’s brutal.”

Others urged her to set boundaries in the future, especially when it comes to family expectations and care responsibilities.

Despite the lack of support, the mom said the experience served as a wake-up call. “Next time, we’ll stay home,” she wrote.
