A woman in Spain has claimed that a 10-year-old boy was left alone at an airport after his parents discovered his passport had expired — and chose to board their flight anyway.

In a TikTok video, a woman identifying herself as an air-operations coordinator at a Spanish airport alleged that the boy was abandoned at the terminal while his parents continued with their vacation plans. According to the New York Post, the parents reportedly asked a relative to collect the child while they boarded the plane.

The woman, identified as Lilian, said the child was found alone by authorities. “[The kid] told [police] that his parents were on the plane, on their way to their home country for vacation,” she said in Spanish in the video.

Lilian explained that the child was carrying an expired Spanish passport and required a valid travel visa. “Since he didn’t have a visa, they left the kid in the terminal and called a relative to pick him up,” she said.

The boy was later found waiting for that relative to arrive. “I didn’t see it as normal,” Lilian added. “The police didn’t see it as normal either.”

Expressing disbelief, she asked, “How is it possible for parents to leave their ten-year-old son at the terminal because he cannot travel due to documentation issues?” She pointed out the risk involved, noting that the relative could have taken “half an hour, about an hour, about three hours” to arrive — yet the parents boarded the flight without hesitation.

According to Fox News, airport authorities contacted the pilot of the flight in question. The pilot reportedly inquired if anyone had left a child in the terminal. The parents, who were traveling with another younger child, were eventually located and brought to the police station where their son was waiting.

“I’m an air traffic controller, and as a controller, I’ve seen a lot of things — but this was completely surreal,” Lilian said. “I’m amazed to think how parents could possibly leave their ten-year-old son at the terminal because he can’t travel due to documentation issues,” she added.
