A new mom is outraged after her mother-in-law took it upon herself to announce the birth of her baby — while she was still in the hospital and hadn’t even met her newborn yet.

Posting to Reddit, the woman described her birth as “rough,” sharing that her baby had to be rushed to the NICU due to a brain condition. Meanwhile, the new mom, dealing with high blood pressure, was put on bed rest and wasn’t immediately able to visit the NICU.

Her mother-in-law, however, did go — and took “multiple pictures and photos of her hooked up to the IVs and CPAP machine.” Then, without waiting or asking, the mother-in-law posted the update online: “everything about my baby and how she’s in the NICU and ‘mama and baby are doing just fine.’”

“It upset me greatly,” the mom wrote, “because before I even got the chance to see my baby, hold her, or make MY announcement she already told the whole world about it.”

The incident wasn’t the first time her mother-in-law jumped the gun with personal news. She shared that a similar thing happened during her engagement: “It was a surprise and she recorded the entire thing. She immediately posted before I could tell anyone.”

Despite the repeated boundary-crossing, the mother-in-law always claims she’s just “so excited” and “can’t wait to share.” But for the new mom, it’s become too much. “I’m fed up,” she said.

Support rolled in on Reddit, with one commenter suggesting that the mother-in-law be put on a “social media diet.” Others encouraged the woman to set firmer boundaries with her in-laws — including clear consequences for posting private family updates without permission.
