A 17-year-old California girl is recovering from severe injuries after being mauled by a pack of dogs in Newberry Springs on July 17, according to reports.
Around 7:00 a.m. local time, the teenager—identified locally as Tracy—was jogging along a dirt road near her family’s home when the attack occurred, according to a GoFundMe page. She had been heading toward a workout facility near the community center when the dogs surrounded her, ABC 7 Los Angeles reported.
A neighbor, hearing her screams, quickly called 911. Tracy suffered deep lacerations and bites across her body and was rushed to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, where doctors administered more than 500 stitches.
“I thought she was going to be fine because she walks to her bus stop every morning … I never thought anything would happen to her,” her mother, Maria Azpeitia, told ABC 7 Los Angeles.
Recalling the moment she saw her daughter after the attack, Azpeitia said, “I didn’t know who she was. She was so dirty, covered in dirt, so I couldn’t recognize my daughter.”

Authorities seized 16 dogs from a nearby property. Detectives said the animals were neither fenced nor leashed at the time, per ABC 7 Los Angeles.
Photographs obtained by the outlet show Tracy in the hospital with extensive bite wounds, gashes, and bandages covering her legs, along with a leg cast.
“I thought they ripped her arms off,” Azpeitia said.
Her stepfather, Carlos Ramirex, added, “It was not one dog or two dogs, it was a lot. They bit every part of her body you could think of except for her ankles.”

Tracy has been unable to walk without assistance since the incident, ABC 7 Los Angeles reported. She was recently released from the hospital but now faces months of recovery.
“She was getting ready to do her senior year of high school this year. Now, because of this, she has to stay home and go to several doctors’ appointments and rehab,” reads the GoFundMe page. “Due to the trauma, she cannot sleep at night; she’s having nightmares.”
The fundraiser has collected more than $8,000 toward its $12,000 goal.
