After months of gaining the trust of a foster dog, one woman was overjoyed when the dog showed her the first sign of love.
TikTok user @thefatdog welcomed Meadow, a foster dog, from a rescue group called Saving South Texas. Meadow had given birth to 10 puppies in the Rio Grande Valley. Because of the scars on Meadow’s body, her foster mom thinks she was abused before, which made Meadow afraid of people.
The foster mom worked with Meadow every day to show her that not all humans hurt dogs. She didn’t rush and never gave up on Meadow.
Then, one day, Meadow surprised her by giving her a gentle, sloppy kiss on the face. The moment was caught on video and shared on TikTok on August 8.
The foster mom was so excited she gasped, but she realized her reaction scared Meadow. She said she “messed up” and spent the rest of the time showing Meadow that kisses would never be punished.
The video had a message: “As foster parents, this is why we have to stay calm. Scared dogs notice everything, even how we act.”
With more time and patience, Meadow soon couldn’t stop giving kisses. She went from being afraid to look at her foster family to happily sharing love.
Since then, the foster family has seen that Meadow is full of affection and will keep growing as she moves to her forever home.
