A mother in North Carolina was arrested after she fired a gun into the air to stop a fight at a back-to-school event on Saturday, police said.

Cherez Davis, 34, was charged with causing panic and carrying a hidden weapon. She was released after paying a $50,000 bond.

The event took place at the CW Williams Community Health Center in Charlotte. Davis said her son got into an argument with another boy, which got worse when another adult joined in.

Police say Davis then took a handgun out of her backpack and fired two shots into the air. After that, she put the gun away and left.

The gunshots scared a crowd of over 100 people, who ran for safety. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Witnesses described Davis to the police, who found her soon after. Police also recovered the gun she used.

The health center said the event was mostly successful but was saddened by the shooting. They wrote that the shots were an isolated incident near the end of the event and were glad no one was injured.

The center encouraged the community to remember the good work done during the fair and not focus only on the shooting.
