Cheryl Hines recently opened up about her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., how Hollywood reacted to his political career, and her thoughts on “MAHA” in a new interview with The Wall Street Journal.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm actress said she doesn’t understand why some old friends — and even strangers — reacted so strongly when she stood by her husband. Kennedy left the Democratic Party, ran for president as an independent, then joined forces with President Donald Trump and became Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“At first, you’re thinking, wow, why are they so angry or disappointed?” Hines said. “Some people can’t even talk about it. It’s really strange.”

Hines has reacted differently to her husband’s controversies over the years. In 2022, Kennedy compared vaccine mandates to the Holocaust, suggesting Anne Frank had more freedom. At the time, Hines called his comments “reprehensible and insensitive.”

Now, however, she seems more in line with his views on vaccines and public health. “Is science ever settled?” she said. “Technology changes. Everything changes.”

One topic they didn’t discuss much in the interview was Kennedy’s sexting scandal with journalist Olivia Nuzzi last fall. The news broke while Kennedy was shifting toward MAGA politics and sparked rumors about their marriage.

Nuzzi was suspended from New York magazine for having a personal relationship with a former interview subject — alleged to be Kennedy. She said their communication “was never physical” but admitted she should have disclosed it to avoid conflicts. A source later told PEOPLE that Hines was embarrassed and barely speaking to Kennedy after the news came out.

In the interview, Hines wouldn’t directly address the scandal but said she and her husband trust each other. “Bobby and I talk about everything… we’re really good friends,” she said. Her upcoming memoir, Unscripted, also portrays their relationship in a positive way.

Kennedy said he tries not to respond to every rumor. “If you get caught up in it, it drags you into low vibrations. The trick is to stay in high vibrations,” he said.

When Hines met Kennedy, he told her he had no plans to enter politics. Now, she supports his mission to “Make America Healthy Again” and even drinks raw milk, which many doctors warn against. “Something like that doesn’t worry me,” she said.

“I feel very connected to MAHA,” she added.
