A 3-year-old boy was seriously hurt after falling from a third-story apartment window in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood, police said.

The incident happened around 9:20 p.m. on Monday, August 11, at an apartment on Evans Street. According to Boston Police, the child fell from a kitchen window. He was rushed to a local children’s hospital in critical but stable condition. By Tuesday, August 12, officials said his injuries were no longer life-threatening.

Neighbor Kelly Bransfield told local news station WCVB she heard a woman screaming after the fall.
“I just hope the child will be okay,” Bransfield said. “When it’s a child, my heart breaks. I have kids and grandkids, and in the summer they should be outside playing, not lying in a hospital.”

When police arrived, they found the boy conscious but struggling to breathe, with visible injuries and swelling on the left side of his upper body.

After the boy was taken to the hospital, detectives and crime scene investigators examined the apartment. The Boston Police Homicide Unit is also assisting with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
