First Lady Melania Trump is threatening to sue Hunter Biden for $1 billion, saying he made false and damaging statements about her. She is demanding that he take back what he said, delete the content, and apologize, or she will take legal action.
Fox News Digital got a copy of the letter her lawyer, Alejandro Brito, sent to Biden and his lawyer, Abbe Lowell, on August 6. The letter says Biden made false and “defamatory” claims during a video interview with Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan earlier this month.
In the interview, Biden claimed that Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania to Donald Trump. Brito said these statements were “extremely false” and have been widely spread online, causing serious harm to her reputation.
Brito also pointed out that Biden’s “source” for the claim was author Michael Wolff, whose statements were published by The Daily Beast but later taken down after the outlet received a legal complaint from Melania Trump’s lawyers. The Daily Beast also apologized.
The letter warns Biden that he has “no defense” for the harm caused and that the timing of the video shows “actual malice.” It demands a public retraction and apology, along with a warning not to destroy or hide any evidence about the claims.
Brito gave Biden until August 7 at 5 p.m. to respond, but a source says Biden did not comply. The source also said Biden’s team leaked the letter to a reporter, which they believe shows Biden is worried about legal trouble.
This dispute comes after political strategist James Carville also repeated the claim on his Politics War Room podcast. After getting a letter from Melania’s lawyer, Carville took down the video, removed the comments, and apologized.
An aide to the First Lady, Nick Clemens, said her legal team is “actively ensuring immediate retractions and apologies” from anyone who spreads false claims. Melania Trump says the real story of how she met President Trump is told in her book Melania.
