A man in Washington, D.C., was arrested after throwing a sandwich at a federal officer and shouting insults.
Court records say Sean Charles Dunn confronted a group of law enforcement officers on Sunday night near The Wharf. The group included Customs and Border Protection Agent Gregory Lairmore, a Metro Transit Police detective, and other federal agents.
Dunn yelled profanity, called the officers “fascists,” and told them to leave the city. Witnesses said he stood close to Lairmore while shouting. A video posted on Instagram shows Dunn later crossing the street, then coming back and “forcefully” throwing a sub-style sandwich at Lairmore.
Police say Dunn tried to run but was caught. He admitted to the act, telling officers, “I did it. Threw a sandwich.” He now faces charges for assaulting, obstructing, or resisting U.S. officials.
Trump Orders Federal Control of D.C. Police
The incident happened just before President Donald Trump announced that he was taking direct federal control of the D.C. police force. He also ordered the National Guard to patrol the capital, saying it was needed to “rescue our nation’s capital from crime, bloodshed, bedlam, and squalor.”
Reports say crime in D.C. has been decreasing since 2023. Still, the administration says 66 people have been arrested since the start of the federal takeover. About 100–200 National Guard troops will be on patrol at any given time, with up to 800 expected to be deployed.
