A makeup “miracle” helped a bride with bruises and black eyes look stunning on her wedding day.
Four days before her July 5 wedding at Tirtha Uluwatu in Bali, Indonesia, Amanda had a makeup trial with Dollface Darlings — but then disaster struck. Between the trial and her wedding, Amanda had a scuba diving accident. Her mask caused a diving injury known as mask squeeze, which happens when you can’t equalize pressure while going down underwater. The pressure damaged blood vessels and soft tissues around her eyes, leaving her with swelling and dark bruises.
“In my heart, I felt very sad because I was afraid I might not be able to make her happy on such an important day in her life,” said Dollface Darlings’ head makeup artist, Wiwik “Wayan” Arisandi, in an interview with PEOPLE.

Kat O’Hara, who leads Dollface Darlings, added that her assistant, Aurelie, noticed Arisandi had tears in her eyes because she wanted to do her very best for Amanda.
In a before video of Amanda’s transformation posted on Instagram on Aug. 3, the team said Amanda was “devastated” and “heartbroken” after her accident because she didn’t know if she could feel like herself on her wedding day.
Arisandi reassured Amanda that the bruises could be covered. She has over 20 years of makeup experience and has worked at Dollface Darlings for 13 years.
“Because of that experience, we knew exactly what to do when the accident happened. I have covered bruising before, so I already knew the techniques needed,” Arisandi said. “I told her not to worry, we would make sure she looked her best on her wedding day.”
On the morning of the wedding, the team carefully treated the bruises, “bringing back her natural radiance.”
Arisandi explained that they first prepped, moisturized, and hydrated Amanda’s skin, focusing especially on the bruised areas to make the makeup apply smoothly.
Next came the challenge of covering the bruises.
To hide the discoloration, the team used a peach color corrector from Tarte on the bruises. Then Arisandi applied thin layers of foundation slowly for full coverage. She mixed LT Pro Smooth Corrector Cream Foundation, MUAQ High Definition Foundation, and NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation that work well in Bali’s humid weather.

To finish the look, powders like Chanel Poudre Universelle Libre and Mercredi Translucent Powder were applied lightly to avoid caking. Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer added a warm tone, and the brand’s Cheek to Chic Blush created a peachy-pink flush. The makeup was set with MAC Fix+ setting spray to last all day.
Finally, the lips were lined with Bobbi Brown Lip Liner Pencil and filled in with peachy lipsticks from Maybelline and Charlotte Tilbury.
The whole process took about 90 minutes.
“When the unimaginable happens and you pray for a miracle…” Dollface Darlings wrote in a caption on Instagram on Aug. 7.
In the reveal video, Amanda looked in the mirror and said, “Oh, my God, you hid it. Thank you so much. Can I give you a hug? Thank you.”
“She was very happy and emotional. She hugged me and couldn’t believe it. She said it was magic!” Arisandi said.
