A woman from Virginia has been lucky enough to win the lottery not once, but twice in her life.
Oletha Etheridge, who lives in Gloucester, recently won $1 million from the Virginia Lottery’s $100,000 a Year scratch-off ticket game.
The Virginia Lottery announced on Monday, Aug. 11, that Oletha will share the prize with her two daughters, Taletha and Takema.
“You could say that Oletha Etheridge is a lucky woman. In her 20s, she won $25,000 from the Virginia Lottery,” the agency said. “Now in her 60s, she’s won again.”
Instead of receiving $100,000 each year for 10 years, Oletha and her family chose the one-time cash payout of $816,000 before taxes.
Decades ago, Oletha used her first lottery winnings to buy a house. This time, she plans to add new rooms to that same house and also buy “an affordable Corvette,” according to the Virginia Lottery.
Her daughters plan to use their part of the money just like their mother once did — to purchase their own homes.
Oletha bought the winning ticket at a Food Lion supermarket on Hargett Blvd. in Gloucester. After scratching it, she excitedly told one of her daughters, “Are you sitting down? ’Cause I have something to tell you.”
