After a woman tragically lost her life while saving her 5-year-old daughter from a falling tree branch in England, her grieving husband has shared a heartfelt tribute.
Last week, Madia Kauser, 32, and her husband, Wasim Khan, were walking with their 9-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter in Witton Country Park in Blackburn, Lancashire. Kauser was fatally struck by a tree branch after she pushed her daughter’s stroller out of harm’s way and was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Wednesday, Aug. 20, Khan honored his late wife, describing her as a devoted mother, in a statement shared by the Blackburn and Darwen Police on Facebook.
He said Kauser “did everything for our two children, she did everything she could for anyone and would bring smiles whenever she entered the room.”
“She was my comfort, my partner in life and the love of my life,” he continued. “We have so many great memories, went through pain together and started a family together.”
On Monday, Aug. 11, Khan and his son were walking ahead of Kauser and their daughter when he heard a “crack,” he previously told The Sun. The branch fell despite calm conditions, according to the outlet.
“I rushed to her,” Khan said. “I tried to save her, she was still breathing.”
A spokesperson for the Lancashire Police previously told PEOPLE that first responders arrived at the park on Preston Old Road at 8:33 p.m. local time after reports of a woman being struck by a falling tree branch.
“Emergency services attended and found the woman unresponsive,” police said. “Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, she was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.”
Authorities confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious. The Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen Coroner’s Service stated that an inquest into Kauser’s death will open on Thursday, Aug. 21.
The Lancashire Police, investigating the incident alongside the Health and Safety Executive, have asked anyone with information to come forward.
“This is an absolutely tragic incident which has cost a young woman her life, and my thoughts are with her loved ones,” said Detective Inspector Iain Czapowski, according to the BBC. “I am especially keen to speak to anyone who actually saw what happened on that fateful night and I would urge them to contact us.”
For Khan and his children, the loss is profound.
“Honestly, I feel completely lost without her and I do not know how to put into words how much I miss her face, her character and her presence,” he said. “My one and only.”
