A man nicknamed the “butt-sniffing bandit” online has been arrested again for allegedly smelling a woman’s buttocks.
Calese Carron Crowder, 38, was taken into custody on Wednesday, Aug. 20 — less than a month after his previous arrest for the same behavior. According to ABC 7 News, CBS News, and Fox 11, Crowder was accused of sniffing a woman inside a Walgreens in Burbank, Calif.
Store employees alerted police, who located and arrested him at around 10:45 p.m. that evening, per ABC 7. Public records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department show he was booked into jail at 1:03 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21.
Crowder had faced a similar charge on July 22. In that case, police responded to a report of a “suspicious individual loitering in the women’s department” at a Nordstrom Rack in Burbank. By the time officers arrived, he had left the store but was later spotted at a nearby Walmart.
“Using the store’s surveillance system, officers monitored the suspect as he moved through various departments,” the Burbank Police Department said in a press release. “While in the women’s section, the suspect was observed following a female customer, crouching near her, and engaging in lewd behavior by inappropriately sniffing her buttocks.”
Following the July incident, Crowder was charged with one count of loitering with intent to commit a crime, and his bail was set at $100,000.
Authorities also noted that he is a registered sex offender with “a documented history of similar arrests for lewd conduct in both Glendale and Burbank, dating back to 2021,” according to the release.
PEOPLE reached out to both the Burbank Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Sunday, Aug. 24, but did not immediately receive a response.
