A bride is facing backlash after asking her bridesmaids to help pay for her “dream wedding dress.”
In a Reddit post, one of the bridesmaids revealed that the bride requested each member of her bridal party contribute $500 toward her dress fund. According to the post, the demand was presented as “non-negotiable” and came with just three weeks’ notice.
“Some of us have budgets, and this feels completely unreasonable,” the bridesmaid wrote. “Has anyone dealt with a Bridezilla demanding large sums from friends last minute? How did you handle it without causing drama?”
The unusual request sparked outrage from other Reddit users, many of whom said the situation was already beyond repair. Several commenters advised the bridesmaid to withdraw from the wedding entirely, warning that the dress payment might only be the beginning of unreasonable expectations.
“I’d be responding that you feel she’d be more comfortable with a different type of bridesmaid and will attend as a guest instead,” one user suggested. “This demand is probably just the tip of the iceberg for this woman.”
Another commenter recommended making the decision publicly in the group chat so that other bridesmaids — especially those hesitant to decline — would feel empowered to step away as well.
Others pointed out the entitlement of the demand, noting that bridesmaids often already spend significant amounts of money on dresses, travel, and accommodations.
“The last-minute demand isn’t the bad part,” one user wrote. “The demand at ANY point of wedding planning is the bad part.”
