Donald Trump is losing support on his signature issue, according to a political expert on Saturday.
CNN data analyst Harry Enten looked at polling numbers over the weekend and showed how Trump’s standing with voters has dropped when it comes to his major tariffs.
When asked if Americans’ opinions had “changed on tariffs since Trump was elected,” Enten replied, “Yeah, I would say absolutely.”
Enten added, “Donald Trump and his tariff plan are struggling with the American public, the way Arch Manning struggled today in Columbus, Ohio. What are we talking about? Well, let’s break it down. New tariffs on imported goods. Back in November 2024, when Donald Trump was elected for a second time, 52% of Americans supported the plan, while 48% opposed it.”
He then compared those numbers to today.
“The opposition is through the roof. Now, 60% of Americans oppose the new tariffs, compared to just 40% who support them,” Enten said. “We went from a slight majority supporting the plan to a majority opposing it. Americans have experienced the tariffs, and they don’t like what they’ve tasted. They are spitting it out.”
