Dierks Bentley and Wife of 19 Years Cassidy Sleep on Two Mattresses: ‘I Decided to Separate Church and State’

Country singer Dierks Bentley recently shared that he and his wife Cassidy don’t currently sleep in the same room, though they hope to change that soon.

The couple, who married in December 2005, have three children together.

Bentley, 49, opened up about their unusual sleeping arrangements during the Sept. 2 episode of Bobby Bones’ BobbyCast. He explained that after years on the road, adjusting back to home life means finding ways for both of them to get better rest.

“When I do get off the road, it’s like the No. 1 priority,” Bentley said. “My wife will be like, ‘How’d you sleep last night?’ And we don’t even sleep in the same room right now anymore. We’ve moved beyond that.”

He admitted that his own sleep habits play a role. “I have three pillows that have to be positioned exactly the correct way,” he said. “And all of a sudden she’ll jerk, and I’m like, ‘You’re already asleep?'”

Years ago, Bentley came up with a solution. “I decided to separate church and state and I got rid of our bed,” he said. Instead, he set up two mattresses and box springs side by side, giving Cassidy the freedom to move without disturbing him.

But lately, Bentley said things have gone further. “She used to sleep on the couch, now there’s an extra room we have, and she’ll go sleep in there. Even last night we said, ‘We’ve got to get this back on track when I get off the road. We got to get back in the same room.'”

He added that the plan is for them to be back in the same bedroom before the year ends.

Dierks and Cassidy first met in eighth grade and reconnected years later. In 2016, he told The Boot that their relationship had always been a mix of right time and wrong time. That changed when she visited him at a Las Vegas show where he was opening for George Strait. “I kind of knew that that was the moment,” Bentley recalled.

They eloped in December 2005 and are now parents to Evalyn Day, Jordan Catherine, and Knox.

In a 2018 interview with PEOPLE, Bentley said raising children has been the biggest influence on their marriage. “It’s all in it together. I think that the greatest character builder in a marriage is kids,” he explained.

He added that his kids love traveling and touring with him whenever possible. “I feel like that’s my main job really — being a dad.”
