Man Tells Longtime Partner He Can’t ‘Picture’ Her as a Mom Because She ‘Wouldn’t Sacrifice Enough’

A woman was shocked after her boyfriend admitted he couldn’t picture her as a mother, even though they had spent years planning a future together.

On Reddit, the 29-year-old woman shared that she and her 31-year-old boyfriend have been together for five years, often talking about “marriage, kids, buying a house, all the things.”

“He’s always agreed, even gotten excited when we’ve browsed houses online or talked baby names,” she wrote.

But last week, he suddenly confessed that he “can’t actually picture me as a mom.”

When she asked why, he told her she was “too independent” and wouldn’t “sacrifice enough” for a family. He then added that he might want to be with someone “more traditional.”

The woman said she was “floored” by his comments and is now questioning their whole relationship.

“I’ve spent years investing in this relationship under the assumption we were on the same page,” she wrote. “I also make more money than him, and suddenly I wonder if this is all tied to his ego.”

She went on to say she felt “betrayed and humiliated,” unsure if he had truly just realized this or had been stringing her along all along.

In the comments, many Reddit users urged her to end the relationship.

“Well, how to destroy your relationship in one line… I’m sorry that your relationship was blown up OP,” one person wrote. “The only positive here is he showed you how little he respects you before any children arrived.”

Others pointed out the contradiction in his desire for someone “more traditional.” They noted that he seemed to want a partner who would handle all the housework while also bringing in an income.

“Let this man go,” one commenter advised. “What he’s really saying is he knows you’d expect him to be an equal partner and parent, and he doesn’t actually want that. He wants kids he doesn’t raise, and he wants their mother to be financially dependent on him.”
