Authorities in Texas say a 16-year-old girl fatally shot her mother last week before briefly running away.

Tiamoya Moore, 34, was shot multiple times at a home in Galveston, Texas, on Thursday, Sept. 11, according to Galveston police in a statement.

Police arrived after receiving calls about the shooting and found Moore. She was taken to a medical facility, where she was pronounced dead.

Officials say the suspect — later identified as Moore’s 16-year-old daughter — ran from the scene on foot.

The teen, whose name has not been released, came back to the house while police were investigating. She was arrested without incident, police said.

A neighbor across the street said she heard the shots and hid in her home.

“She was screaming. She was screaming. And I hear, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom,” Gracela Molina told WLTX. “It was scary. I just ran.”

Moore’s childhood friend described her as a loving mother.

Tia would give you the shirt off of her back. Tia loved her kids. She would do anything for her kids. She was very spiritual, very into God, changed her life around for God,” said Alicia Giessinger.

On her Facebook account, Moore shared her journey toward sobriety over the past few months.

“I’m happy for me,” she wrote in one post from December.

Galveston police said the teen is being held at a juvenile justice center for murder, but it’s not yet clear if official charges have been filed.

Moore’s family is still trying to understand what happened.

“I just want to know what really happened, like, what caused for that to get to this point to where you had to take your own mama’s life,” Giessinger told FOX 26 Houston.

A GoFundMe has been created to help cover Moore’s funeral costs.

The investigation is ongoing.
