The family of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, the missing teenage girl found dead in the trunk of a Tesla reportedly owned by singer d4vd, is speaking out about the tragedy.

“As many of you know, Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been identified as the body found last week,” GoFundMe organizers Esmeralda Lozano and Gisel Vera wrote on the fundraising page. “She was a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend.”

They added, “Her family is heartbroken and devastated by this tragic loss. They are seeking help to lay her body to rest. Any funds you are able to donate are greatly appreciated.”

PEOPLE has reached out to GoFundMe to confirm the fundraiser’s validity.

The family’s first public comments came a day after the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner identified 15-year-old Rivas Hernandez as the body found in the car on Sept. 8, PEOPLE previously reported. Her date of death is also listed as Sept. 8, but her cause of death is “deferred,” meaning it is still under investigation.

According to NBC News, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office in California confirmed that Rivas Hernandez is the “juvenile who was reported missing from Lake Elsinore” last year.

The sheriff’s office said the Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the case as a homicide.

Authorities told KABC-TV that the body was found in the Tesla’s front trunk, wrapped inside a bag. The car is registered in Hempstead, Texas, to d4vd, 20, whose real name is David Anthony Burke.

Officers responded after receiving a report of a foul odor coming from the vehicle on N. Mansfield Avenue, PEOPLE previously reported.

FOX 11 Los Angeles reported that authorities believe the body had been placed in the trunk about five days before the car was towed to the impound lot.

The Tesla was reported abandoned in the Hollywood Hills, where neighbors told NBC Los Angeles it had been parked for about a month.

A representative for the singer, who is on tour and is known for hits like “Here with Me” and “Romantic Homicide,” said he had been “informed about what’s happened” and is “fully cooperating with the authorities.”

As of Sept. 18, police have not named any suspects or filed charges in the case.

Authorities have not shared further details about Rivas Hernandez or whether she had any connection to the singer.
