One concert fan is stirring debate online with her strong opinions about what people should wear to shows.
TikTok user @shotmyheartwithnovacaine posted a video in July sharing her thoughts with her 137K followers. “If you are going to a concert, I should be able to tell what concert you are going to by your outfit,” she says in the video.
“I’m literally so tired of the girls that just wear a Lululemon Align top and, like, jean shorts,” she added. “Like, girl, have some fun.”
Viewers quickly shared their opinions, some agreeing and others strongly disagreeing.
“Girl stay home if it bothers you that much,” one user wrote.
“I fear this is such a teenager mindset,” another commented. “It gets to a point in life where you realize you can enjoy things without having to perform [for] them.”

One commenter noted that buying new clothes just for concerts might not be a good idea, saying, “nah people getting Shein orders for every single thing they’re going to is a problem actually.” The creator agreed, replying, “It definitely is and I 100% agree, that’s why I either thrift or diy mine.”
After the post gained attention, the TikToker updated the caption: “im not trying to police what other people wear, wear whatever you want 😭. i worded this badly and didn’t expect it to blow up.”
She clarified, “it’s more so aimed at the basic rich white girls who will spend a fortune on a new outfit just to wear it once and for it to not even match the music. they’re also the ones that make fun of people who actually put effort into their outfits and plan them months ahead of time.”
Commenters continued to say she shouldn’t care so much about other people’s clothes, pointing out that fans are “there for music and not a fashion show.”
Some agreed with her, like one person who wrote, “Wdym people dont color coordinate their outfit based on the artists most recent album .”
Big tours in recent years — like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyoncé’s Renaissance and Cowboy Carter Tour — have seen fans dressing in outfits inspired by their favorite artists. Swift fans dressed to match her various eras, while Beyoncé fans rocked Western and Americana looks for Cowboy Carter.

Other fandoms, including Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, and BTS, also sometimes dress up for concerts, though it’s optional. Dressing up is just one way some fans get into the spirit of the show.
While some say going all out for concerts is mainly a “Gen-Z thing,” many fans of all ages excitedly pick cowboy hats or hand-make glittery bodysuits for Beyoncé’s shows.

“Concert outfits are literally one of the most fun parts of the entire concert,” one user wrote, agreeing with the original poster. “And you can dress up in your own way too, in your own budget and comfort.”
