Conjoined twins Carmen and Lupita Andrade are sharing how they handle boundaries in Carmen’s marriage to her husband, Daniel McCormack.

The couple — who met on the dating app Hinge in 2020 — quietly got married in October 2024 on Lover’s Leap Bridge in New Milford, Conn. Since then, people have had a lot of questions.

When asked how she and Daniel, 28, manage intimacy while respecting Lupita’s boundaries, Carmen told PEOPLE it comes down to “constantly talking.”

“I don’t know how else to put it,” she added.

Carmen explained that if her sister isn’t comfortable with something, whether it’s cuddling or other topics the couple discusses, “we just respect that.”

Lupita added, “I have headphones and a phone. I don’t care.”

Carmen also said she’s “not a very overly affectionate person that way.”

“I think there’s a certain societal expectation that there needs to be affection all the time in a relationship,” she said. “Most of the time, we just joke around a lot.”

While Carmen admitted that she and her husband sometimes “feel kind of guilty” about the time they spend together, they try their best to maintain balance.

But sometimes strangers’ curiosity goes too far.

“People are obsessed with sex, you know? And frankly, it’s none of your f—— business,” Daniel said.

“I don’t understand why people need to know about my private parts to humanize us,” Carmen added. Lupita said she doesn’t “like being asked if I am ever going to love [Daniel].” She explained, “I love him as a brother. That’s about it.”

The conjoined twins, 25 and originally from Mexico, have defied the odds throughout their lives, PEOPLE previously reported. They share some ribs, their circulatory system, and their digestive and reproductive systems, but each has their own heart, lungs, and stomach.

Doctors told them that separation surgery could result in serious neurological problems or death. Ultimately, Carmen and Lupita chose not to undergo the procedure.

Carmen and Daniel’s relationship started with a simple moment that stood out. “He asked about our dog,” Carmen recalled.

Although Lupita encouraged Carmen to pursue a connection, she teased about their first date. “They were really boring, talked for hours, and were both very sweaty,” she joked.

“It was summer, man,” Carmen laughed. “I don’t know what to tell you.”

Even though they married in 2024, the couple doesn’t plan to have children. “No kids, never plan on it,” Daniel said. “I like the aunt/uncle idea — it’s like rent a kid; you get to give them back at the end of the day.”

Carmen agreed. “I never saw myself being a parent,” she said.

Despite their social media presence — including a shared YouTube channel with over 256K subscribers and separate Instagram accounts followed by thousands — the sisters stress that their content doesn’t provide financial security.

“We don’t want to take advantage of our supporters,” Carmen said. “We don’t take on sponsors because the ones that reached out, we don’t trust. We still have to work 50 hours a week to make ends meet.”

Even with busy schedules, they still make time for other passions, including their latest role in Brandon Rogers’ A Night at the Park, with Paulette Jones.

“Even with our schedules being so busy, we love making time for projects like this,” Carmen said. “It was such a fun experience.”
