A New Hampshire mother accused of stealing $660,000 from her employer before killing her husband and two children reportedly had a history of theft from a previous employer.

The victims—Ryan Long, 48, and their children Parker, 8, and Ryan, 6—were found fatally shot in their home in Madbury, N.H., on Aug. 18, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office.

Police determined the killings were carried out by the children’s mother, Emily Long, 34, who then died by suicide.

After the murders were reported, Emily’s employer accused her of stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars over the past two years, local WCVB reported.

Derek Fisher, owner of a local restaurant chain where Emily worked, told WCVB they discovered “a lot of handwritten checks being deposited into her bank account.”

Further investigation by The Boston Globe revealed Emily had a similar history of theft.

In 2016, according to the Globe, Emily was investigated by Nantucket authorities after her then-employer—a brewpub on the island—accused her of stealing about $11,000 in cash and alcohol. She and another employee, who was her boyfriend, were fired and reportedly went on a vacation to Thailand.

Emily was later arraigned on several check forgery charges after returning to the U.S., but the case was dismissed when the brewpub closed, according to the Globe.

Fisher’s accusations did not get far before Emily carried out the killings in her home. Fisher had called her into his office to discuss the issue on Aug. 11, but she did not attend. One week later, she killed three members of her family.

Leading up to the murders, Emily shared her family’s experiences on TikTok, where she discussed coping with her husband’s brain cancer diagnosis. She told PEOPLE that posting on TikTok was “cheaper” than therapy and admitted she had been in a depressive “rut.”

Emily left behind the couple’s toddler, who was found unharmed in the home.
