Police in England are investigating the death of a 17-year-old girl who was found dead one day after she was reported missing.
According to a statement from Greater Manchester Police, the girl was discovered around 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, at a home on Whalley Close in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester.
“Despite the best efforts of emergency service workers, the girl sadly died at the scene,” police said.
Authorities have not confirmed her full name but believe she is a teenager named Catherine, who was reported missing on Saturday, Sept. 20. Her family has been notified, and officers are providing them with support.
Police also announced the arrest of a 55-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He has not been identified and remains in custody.
Investigators said the cause of death is still unknown, and detectives are considering several possibilities.
“Firstly, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young person who has tragically lost their life, who we sadly believe was missing Catherine,” Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker said. “Although we have a man in custody, our investigation team is keeping an open mind and are following several lines of enquiry.”
