Girl, 16, Rescued After Seen Being ‘Forced’ Into Truck: Police

A Colorado teenager who was believed to be in danger has been found safe hours after an Amber alert was issued.

Jasmin Zapata, 16, was spotted in a white pickup truck near her Boulder, Colo., home on the evening of Monday, Sept. 23, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Boulder Police Department.

The Amber alert indicated that Jasmin was seen “being forced into” the vehicle by two men around 8 p.m. on Monday.

By Tuesday afternoon, authorities confirmed that Jasmin had been safely located.

In the initial alert, CBI and Boulder police named 19-year-old Juan Bretado as a suspect linked to her disappearance. He was taken into custody following Jasmin’s safe recovery, according to an updated statement from the Boulder Police Department.

It remains unclear exactly where Jasmin and Bretado were found. Boulder police, in their Tuesday statement, thanked Thornton, Colo., police for their assistance in locating the teenager. Thornton is roughly 25 miles south of Boulder.

Details surrounding Jasmin’s disappearance, including whether she knew the suspect, have not been released.

While Boulder police confirmed Bretado is in custody, they have not provided information on the charges he may face or whether the second man seen with him has been detained.
