Erika Kirk’s heartfelt eulogy at her husband Charlie Kirk’s funeral service deeply resonated with many—including Disney legend Tim Allen, who shared an emotional reflection on Thursday.
During the memorial in Glendale, Erika, now serving as Turning Point USA’s CEO, announced that she had chosen to forgive Charlie’s assassin, Tyler Robinson. Her words moved Allen, who said her strength finally allowed him to forgive the person responsible for his father’s death.
“When Erika Kirk spoke the words on the man who killed her husband: ‘That man… that young man… I forgive him.’ That moment deeply affected me. I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my Dad. I will say those words now as I type: ‘I forgive the man who killed my father.’ Peace be with you all,” Allen wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
What happened to Tim Allen’s father?
Tim Allen’s father, Gerald M. Dick, a real estate agent, died on November 28, 1964, when Allen was just 11 years old. While driving the family home from a University of Colorado football game in Denver, their car was struck head-on by a drunk driver who had crossed the center line on a snowy road. Gerald was killed instantly, leaving Tim and his five siblings without their father.
Allen has often spoken about the devastating impact of the loss, saying it “changed everything forever” and shaped much of his early life. His mother, Martha Katherine Fox, remarried an Episcopalian deacon two years later.
Erika Kirk’s message of forgiveness
At the memorial, Erika delivered a powerful tribute, visibly emotional as she declared her decision to forgive Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old accused of fatally shooting Charlie Kirk at a Utah Valley University event earlier this month. Robinson now faces an aggravated murder charge.
“I forgive him,” Erika said. “I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it’s what Charlie would do.”
