A single bridesmaid is feeling “humiliated” after learning she’s expected to share a room with a couple at a friend’s upcoming destination wedding.

On Reddit’s Wedding Drama forum, the bridesmaid explained that the bride and groom are renting a villa for two nights for all their guests. While she appreciates that her stay is covered—especially after spending “hundreds” on other wedding-related expenses and taking three days off work—she’s frustrated by the roommate situation.

“As I’m traveling solo (one of the very few guests not in a couple, though I can think of at least two other women), she’s allocated me to share a room with… a couple,” the bridesmaid wrote. “For two nights. These aren’t close friends, just acquaintances.”

The bride admitted the sleeping arrangements are “not ideal” but said coordinating them was “very tricky,” noting that most rooms could fit three people.

Feeling uncomfortable, the bridesmaid looked into nearby hotels, but there aren’t any options in the rural area.

“I just feel awkward and somewhat humiliated at the thought of being a third wheel and honestly just feeling less-than for being single in a couple’s room for two nights,” she said. “It’s not at all what I imagined when agreeing to be her bridesmaid.”

She also mentioned she hasn’t communicated with the couple she’s assigned to room with, so she doesn’t know their thoughts on the situation.

Reddit users sympathized and suggested she have a candid conversation with the bride, emphasizing that the arrangement is “completely unacceptable.”

“How could anyone even think that’s okay?” one top comment read. “If it were me, I would tell the bride she can either arrange for me to have my own room, or she can replace me as a bridesmaid and a guest.”

Another user added, “Being a third wheel is bad enough. Couple that with not really knowing the other occupants, and it makes for a really awkward situation. [The bride] knows that but wants to be cheap where she shouldn’t be. At the very least, she should give you a way to contact them so you can get familiar with each other. I wouldn’t want to sleep with perfect strangers. That makes you vulnerable! I still wouldn’t want to do it and would probably drop out.”
