President Donald Trump briefly shared an AI-generated video over the weekend that falsely promised Americans access to nonexistent medical technology, before deleting it hours later, according to multiple reports.
On Saturday, Sept. 27, Trump, 79, posted a fabricated news clip that appeared to show him announcing that “every American will soon receive their own medbed card.” Outlets including Forbes, CNN, and The Daily Beast reported that the video was produced using artificial intelligence.
The video, which CNN’s Jake Tapper discussed on Instagram, was designed to resemble a Fox News broadcast hosted by Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump. It promoted what was described as a “historic new healthcare system,” echoing conspiracy theories about so-called “medbeds.”
“Every American will soon receive their own medbed card,” the AI-generated Trump stated. “With it, you’ll have guaranteed access to our new hospitals led by the top doctors in the nation, equipped with the most advanced technology in the world.”
The fabricated clip further claimed these facilities would be “safe, modern and designed to restore every citizen to full health and strength.” A banner at the start declared: “Medbed Hospitals: The New Era In Healthcare.”
Fox News confirmed to The Verge that no such segment ever aired on its platforms. The video remained live on Trump’s Truth Social account for roughly 12 hours before being removed, according to The Daily Beast.
The “medbed” idea has circulated in QAnon circles for years, CNN reported. The theory claims that advanced medical beds exist that can reverse aging, regrow limbs, and cure nearly any condition, but are allegedly hidden from the public by elites.
As BBC has explained, the claims about medbeds have no scientific basis. Some New Age and holistic communities have attempted to market versions of the devices, but vendors often make what CNN described as “dubious and unproven promises.”
More fringe versions of the theory suggest that the supposed technology comes from aliens or that former President John F. Kennedy is secretly alive and being kept on a medbed.
