Friend Shocked as Bride Revokes Wedding Invite for Being Single: ‘It Stings’

A woman was removed from her friend’s wedding guest list only a week before the big day — all because she was single.

In a post on Reddit’s “Wedding Drama” forum, the woman shared that the bride uninvited her from the ceremony due to her relationship status. Despite the wedding having happened years ago, the slight “still stings,” she admitted.

The woman said she considered the bride her “close college friend.” When the invitation arrived, it noted that she couldn’t bring a plus-one since that option was reserved for couples. She didn’t mind, explaining she was “just happy to be included.”

In the months leading up to the wedding, she prepared for the celebration, booking a hotel, buying a new outfit, and sending a “big” wedding gift.

“But about a week before the wedding, she called me out of the blue and said, ‘Since you are not bringing anyone, we need to cut back on the headcount so unfortunately I am going to have to uninvite you,’” the woman recalled. She was so shocked she “didn’t even know how to respond.”

“Like… whatttt? I had already spent money and made plans,” she wrote, adding in a comment, “I basically paid to be uninvited.”

The bride reportedly offered that she could watch the ceremony via livestream. But it got worse: after the wedding, the woman saw the photos and realized the bride hadn’t reduced the guest list at all. “She had just replaced me (and a couple others apparently) with her fiancé’s random cousins and coworkers,” the woman said.

The incident effectively ended their friendship. “That was basically the end of our friendship,” she said. “She mailed me a thank-you card for the gift I sent, but I never really heard from her again.” She added, “I get that weddings are stressful and people make tough choices, but damn. Who uninvites someone just for not having a date?”

On Reddit, users largely condemned the bride’s behavior as “insulting” and agreed that the poster was better off no longer being friends with her.

“This is super lame,” one commenter wrote. “I also don’t think I would be able to move past this in a friendship. The rude to straight-up cruel things people justify doing to their friends and family in the name of ‘their special day’ has gotten ridiculous.”

Another added, “It’s very inconsiderate to you. She obviously knew that just a week out from the wedding you had cleared your schedule and spent time and money on accommodations to attend. And not to mention that it would undoubtedly hurt your feelings.”
