Former Republican presidential nominee and U.S. Senator Mitt Romney has shared a heartfelt message following the death of his sister-in-law, Carrie Romney.
In a public statement, Romney said his family is deeply saddened by the loss.
“Our family is heartbroken by the loss of Carrie, who brought warmth and love to all our lives,” the statement read. “We ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
Authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Carrie Elizabeth Romney, 64, was found deceased in a parking lot in Valencia, California, on Friday, Oct. 10.
According to officials, homicide investigators arrived at the scene around 8:30 p.m. that evening, identifying Carrie in a lot located on the 24500 block of Town Center Drive. The investigation remains ongoing, and the cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s Office.
Earlier Monday, a representative for the Sheriff’s Department stated that a woman had jumped or fallen from a nearby parking structure. According to NBC Los Angeles, the garage is five stories tall and situated next to a Hyatt Regency hotel.
Records from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirm that Carrie died on Friday. As of Monday, Oct. 13, her cause of death is listed as deferred, pending further investigation. Her remains are currently ready for release.
