A Florida woman who once made headlines for becoming pregnant while incarcerated is now standing trial for murder.

Daisy Link gained attention in 2024 after giving birth to a child whose father was also in jail at the time — despite both claiming they had never met in person or had physical contact.

According to court records, Link had already been in custody on murder charges when she became pregnant. Her trial began on Wednesday, Oct. 8, according to NBC 6.

Records show Link was charged with murder in June 2022, two years before she gave birth.

Local outlets including NBC 6, Local 10, and CBS Miami reported that Link is accused of fatally shooting her partner, Pedro Jimenez.

During the second day of her trial on Thursday, prosecutors played body camera footage from the aftermath of the shooting, according to NBC.

Prosecutors allege that when officers arrived, Link misled investigators by pretending she had just discovered Jimenez injured.

In the footage published by NBC 6, Link can be heard saying, “I see a hole from the back and a hole from the front — he was shot in his leg.” She also shouted, “I saw him laying there.”

NBC 6 and Local 10 both reported that Link’s attorneys have since acknowledged she shot Jimenez but argue it was an act of self-defense.

“The evidence will show the victim was out of control,” her attorney Ayuban Tomas said, according to Local 10. “He was unhinged, and he was dangerous. She fired a shot to get him to go away.”

WSVN reported that while incarcerated, Link conceived a baby with Joan Depaz, another inmate accused of murder.

The outlet said the two claimed to have used bedsheets to connect vents between their cells, through which Depaz allegedly passed semen wrapped in Saran wrap to Link.

“I can’t believe it worked,” Link told WSVN. “I think everything happened for a reason.”
