White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is drawing attention after posting a private text conversation with a journalist — and her blunt reply has gone viral.

On Monday, Oct. 20, the 28-year-old shared a screenshot on social media of a message exchange between herself and HuffPost White House correspondent S.V. Dáte. The texts showed her responding sharply to one of his questions about an upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In his message, Dáte asked if Trump was “aware of the significance of Budapest,” after the president, 79, chose the Hungarian capital as the meeting location.

“Who suggested Budapest?” Dáte wrote.

“Your mom did,” Leavitt replied.

The journalist, referencing Russia’s 1994 pledge not to invade Ukraine if the nation gave up its nuclear weapons, followed up by asking if she thought the topic was “funny.”

“It’s funny to me that you actually consider yourself a journal [sic],” Leavitt responded.

She later sent another message saying, “You are a far left hack who nobody takes seriously, including your colleagues in the media, they just don’t tell you that to your face. Stop texting me your disingenuous, biased, and bulls— questions.”

Posting the exchange on X, Leavitt added commentary accusing Dáte of partisanship. “For context, S.V. Dáte of the Huffington Post is not a journalist interested in the facts. He is a left-wing hack who has consistently attacked President Trump for years and constantly bombards my phone with Democrat talking points,” she wrote.

She continued, calling Dáte “anti-Trump” and encouraging her followers to “take a look at” his social media. “Activists who masquerade as real reporters do a disservice to the profession,” she added.

But it was Leavitt’s “your mom” retort that quickly became the focus online. Screenshots of the exchange spread across platforms like Reddit, where users criticized her tone.

One person described her message as “horrifying,” writing, “They are everything we teach our kids not to be, unless MAGA is telling their kids this is all fine coming from our nation’s highest office? We are in hell.”

Another commenter said, “They are immature and childish bullies in adult bodies who make fart jokes. I don’t see how anyone can take them seriously.”

A third added, “This is also their JOB. Can you imagine talking like this with external business partners? It’s wild.”
