A wedding guest found herself in a bind after the bride texted her guests with new clothing rules less than two days before the ceremony.
Posting on Reddit’s “weddingshaming” subreddit, the woman explained that she received a message from the bride declaring that “no red or white” would be allowed at the wedding — just hours before the event.
The guest said she understood the “no white” rule, calling it “fair enough” and “a common courtesy,” but was confused about why red was suddenly off-limits.
“I know the red thing [is] a thing in Asian weddings but neither of them or any of their families are Asian — they are 100% white British,” she wrote.

Having already bought a dark red dress, the guest said she didn’t know what to do next. “I went back over the invitation and all it says for dress code is cocktail attire, no mention of color,” she wrote. “I’m now going to have to take this dress back and try to find something else after work today! I feel like just wearing it since she said so late, but I don’t want to ruin her day.”
In the comments, opinions were split on how the guest should respond.
One user suggested messaging the bride to explain that the dress was already purchased and prepared, calling it “rude to add these details so late.” They added that if color restrictions mattered, “it should have been on the invite.”

Another commenter said they would simply skip the wedding altogether and wear the red dress somewhere else instead.
Others encouraged the guest to act as if she never saw the text and enjoy the celebration regardless.
