Human remains discovered nearly four years ago in an abandoned Georgia home have finally been identified, resolving a long-running missing person mystery.
Othram, a Texas-based forensic laboratory that assists law enforcement, announced that the remains belonged to Christopher Lamont Williams, who had been missing since June 2021.
The case began in December 2021, when authorities found human remains in a vacant residence in Brunswick, outside Savannah. Investigators determined the remains were those of a Black man between 45 and 60 years old, standing about 5 feet 10 inches tall, according to Othram.
Nearby, investigators discovered a baseball cap, red sweater, cargo shorts, and a single sock, but no identification documents.

After initial efforts failed to confirm the person’s identity, the Brunswick Police Department sought help from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). The remains were added to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System in May 2024 under the name “Glynn County John Doe.”
In 2023, the GBI provided forensic evidence to Othram, which used advanced DNA testing to build a genetic profile of the unidentified man. The lab developed a DNA extract and, using the new data, traced potential relatives. Reference DNA from a family member ultimately confirmed the victim’s identity as Williams, who was born April 30, 1981, and reported missing six months before the discovery.
Othram noted, “Using this new information, a follow-up investigation was conducted leading investigators to potential relatives of the man. Reference DNA samples were collected from a relative and compared to the DNA profile of the unidentified man.”
An autopsy revealed no signs of trauma or foul play, and authorities said the case is no longer being investigated as a homicide.
According to Othram, Williams’ identification marks the 25th case in Georgia in which the lab has helped name an unidentified person.
Separately, officials announced earlier this month that Velma Louise Silva Lee of Napa, California, was also identified with Othram’s assistance after her remains were found 12 years ago.
