Employee, 42, Dies After Falling into Trash Compactor at Work: Reports

A worker has died after falling into a trash compactor at a Long Island business, according to multiple reports.

The Nassau County Police Department said the incident occurred at Arrow Linen Supply Company in Garden City on Thursday, Oct. 23, according to the New York Daily News and the Daily Voice.

Officers responded to the scene shortly after 10 p.m. following reports that an employee had fallen into a trash compactor, the Daily Voice and 1010 WINS reported.

The victim, identified as 42-year-old Michael Rutledge of Baldwin, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Arrow Linen Supply Company declined to comment when reached by the New York Daily News.

Rutledge’s Facebook page lists him as a delivery truck driver for the company and a graduate of Baldwin High School.

Headquartered in Garden City, Arrow Linen Supply Company provides textiles for industries including food service, hospitality, beauty, healthcare, education, and corporate facilities, according to its website.

Both the Nassau County Police Department and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the incident, according to multiple reports.
