At least one person has died and six others were injured following a shooting during homecoming festivities at a Pennsylvania college on Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. local time on Oct. 25 outside the International Cultural Center at Lincoln University, according to Chester County District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe.
A post-game celebration was underway when gunfire erupted, said Lincoln University Police Chief Marc Partee. Barrena-Sarobe described the aftermath as “a chaotic scene” as people “fled in every direction.”
Authorities confirmed that one of the at least seven victims struck by gunfire has died.
A suspect was detained after being found with a firearm, though no charges have yet been announced. Barrena-Sarobe added that investigators believe there may have been more than one shooter but did not provide details about additional suspects.
He emphasized that the shooting does not appear to have been a planned attack. “We’re operating as if this is not an incident where someone came in with the design to inflict mass damage on a college campus,” Barrena-Sarobe said.
Lincoln University announced in an Instagram post that counseling services would be available for students and staff beginning at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26.
The Chester County District Attorney’s Office urged the public to stay clear of the university area while the investigation continues.
At this stage, authorities have not determined what led to the violence. “We are monitoring all of the victims and we are investigating with the full power of federal, state and local law enforcement tonight,” Barrena-Sarobe said. “We do not believe there’s an active threat to the campus.”

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro posted on X, “I’ve been briefed on the shooting at Lincoln University tonight, and my Administration has offered our full support to President Allen and local law enforcement. Please avoid the area, continue to follow the guidance of local law enforcement…”
