Former President Donald Trump faced swift and intense backlash Saturday night after he announced that the U.S. had launched airstrikes on Iran, targeting the Fordow nuclear facility.
Posting on his platform Truth Social, Trump wrote that the military had dropped a “full payload of BOMBS” on the site, prompting immediate concern and condemnation from across the political spectrum.
One Republican lawmaker called the action unconstitutional, and critics questioned both its legality and its potential consequences.
Prominent investor @jason posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Five months into Trump’s term, we’re at war.”
Conservative attorney and vocal Trump critic George Conway raised legal concerns. “This was an act of war, and arguably illegal under domestic and international law,” he wrote, noting that without full intelligence access, it’s impossible to fully evaluate the decision or its long-term impact.
Tara Setmayer, a former GOP strategist, condemned the move: “Trump, the most incompetent insane president in history, just bombed Iran without Congressional approval. Now what?”
Georgia State Representative Ruwa Romman, the only Palestinian-American in the state legislature, called the strike “illegal,” warning that it would endanger Americans and only benefit weapons manufacturers and war profiteers.
Veteran journalist Brian Karem also criticized the move, saying, “You just started a war without Congressional authorization or even a shred of understanding. Where will this all end?”
Not all reactions were negative. Fox News host Guy Benson called it the “correct decision” but added a cautionary note: “There may well be danger ahead. Pray for the safety of Americans, at home and abroad.”
The strike has ignited a firestorm of debate about executive war powers, global stability, and the consequences of unilateral military action.
