Two people were killed and at least four others were injured in a violent shootout on the Greek island of Crete, reportedly stemming from a long–standing feud between two local families.
The incident took place around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, in the village of Vorizia, according to authorities cited by the Associated Press and Greek outlet EPT News.
Police confirmed that a 39-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman were killed. Four additional individuals were hospitalized with injuries, two of whom remain under police guard for their alleged roles in the shooting.
An investigation is underway in the small mountain community. Officials said the conflict traces back to a dispute over grazing land rights in the rural area. According to reports, an explosion occurred in the village the night before, on Friday, Oct. 31, which investigators believe is connected to the feud and subsequent gunfire.

EPT News reported that two suspects, both hospitalized under guard, have been formally charged with homicide and attempted homicide as of Sunday, Nov. 2. Authorities are also searching for three additional individuals believed to have participated in the attack.
Representatives for EKAB, Greece’s national emergency medical service, and the Hellenic Police were contacted for comment but did not immediately respond.
