When Cortni Engler’s daughter, Winnie, complained of a bellyache, she had her own sweet solution — a big slice of carrot cake.

In a video shared on Engler’s TikTok account, Winnie is seen leaning over her dessert, happily taking another bite. “That’s gonna make your body feel better? Because it’s carrot cake!” Engler says in the clip.

“It’s cake and carrots. So carrots is healthy for you!” Winnie replies with confidence. “See? That’s why I’m trying to eat it all.”

After clarifying that her treat is “healthy,” Winnie adds, “It even makes your belly feel better. It’s not making me feel better right yet ’cause I didn’t eat very much. I tried like four bites, I don’t know.”

Her mom plays along: “But when you eat more of it — when you eat that entire piece of cake — it’s gonna make your belly feel better?” Winnie simply answers, “Probably.”

Engler later explained that her daughter’s love for this particular carrot cake runs deep. It’s a four-layer slice with cream cheese icing from a local restaurant called The Lighthouse, and Winnie has enjoyed it since she was little.

“I’ve always followed the ‘you provide, they decide’ approach from Feeding Littles, so I’ve never restricted food or used it as a consequence,” Engler said. “We have a pantry stocked with snacks, including sweets, that are within reach so they can eat when they’re hungry.”

Because of that, Engler says, her kids don’t tend to overindulge — but carrot cake is the one exception. “She wants it every time we go to The Lighthouse,” she added.

Engler admits she was holding back laughter while filming the video. “She had wanted to skip school that day and said she had a bellyache,” Engler recalled. “I told her that if it got worse once she was at school, I’d come get her. Later, when we went out for supper, I asked if her belly still hurt, and she said yes — but that carrot cake was going to help.”

“It was especially funny because we never really use words like ‘healthy’ or ‘unhealthy’ at home,” Engler said. “I think it’s something she picked up in kindergarten. I’ve always told them that food is just food, and that different foods do different things to our bodies. Hearing her confidently describe carrot cake as ‘healthy’ and list all the reasons why was hilarious. Winnie can have carrot cake whenever she’d like — especially after that speech!”
