Authorities have released the official cause of death for an Ohio State University student whose body was discovered inside Ohio Stadium.
According to the Franklin County Coroner’s Office, 19-year-old William Meyers died by suicide after jumping at the stadium on Sept. 26.
Emergency crews were first dispatched to the scene at 9:56 a.m. local time, as reported by The Columbus Dispatch. In a statement issued that morning, the university confirmed a fatal incident at the stadium and later identified the student as Meyers, a Fairfield, Connecticut, resident.
Ohio State noted that “foul play is not suspected and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” adding condolences for Meyers’ family and friends. The university also encouraged students to access Counseling and Consultation Services if they needed support.
Meyers, a third-year accounting major, described himself on his LinkedIn profile as someone driven by values such as respect, ethics, improvement, and integrity. He also co-founded a charity with his older brother focused on donating new and used sports equipment to local recreational centers. In his online bio, he shared that he enjoyed word games like Scrabble and practicing magic tricks in his free time.
He graduated from Fairfield Ludlowe High School in Connecticut in 2023, according to his LinkedIn page.
Meyers’ death comes one year after a separate tragedy at Ohio Stadium. In May 2024, 53-year-old Larissa Brady died by suicide during the university’s spring commencement ceremony.
