A 23-year-old Illinois man has been taken into custody months after allegedly returning his infant son to the child’s mother while the baby had already died.
Anthony Evans was arrested on Monday, Nov. 13, in connection with the April death of his 2-month-old son, Kayson Flowers, according to a statement released by Chicago police.
Authorities said the investigation began on April 28, 2025, when Kayson was discovered unresponsive inside a Chicago residence. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Family members, who identified the baby publicly, shared that medical staff informed them Kayson had likely been deceased for six to eight hours before he was found.

Kayson’s mother, Kayla Flowers, had agreed to let Evans care for their son beginning April 19. When he returned the baby on April 28, he reportedly told her the child was asleep inside a car seat stroller.
Kayla recounted to ABC7 that she brought Kayson inside due to the rain and initially didn’t think anything was wrong. Minutes later, after uncovering the stroller, she discovered her son unresponsive and discolored.
According to ABC7 and family posts online, a coroner determined Kayson died from multiple injuries caused by abuse. Evans has not been charged with child abuse.

“My son didn’t deserve that. He was only 2 months… He can’t fight back,” Kayla told ABC7 in May.
Evans now faces one felony count of murder with strong probability of death or great bodily harm, per Chicago police. No plea has been entered, and attorney information was not immediately available.
