An 11-year-old boy in Nevada lost his life on the way to school after a road rage encounter escalated into gunfire, authorities said.
Henderson Police Chief Reggie Rader told reporters that the confrontation began around 7:30 a.m. when one driver attempted to pass another by using the shoulder. The move reportedly sparked a verbal dispute between the drivers, during which the 22-year-old suspect allegedly fired a single shot into the other vehicle, striking the child.
After the shooting, the boy’s stepfather — who was driving the car — rammed into the suspect’s vehicle, forcing both cars to stop in the middle of the freeway, Rader explained. The drivers then exited their vehicles and continued arguing.

The suspect, identified as Tyler Matthew Johns, was arrested on charges including open murder and firing a weapon into an occupied vehicle. Police say he was the sole occupant of his vehicle.
Despite rapid aid from first responders and hospital personnel, the boy succumbed to his injuries.
During a press briefing, Rader urged drivers to remain calm on the roads, especially as traffic becomes more congested during the holiday season.
“An 11-year-old was on his way to school, and this senseless act took his life,” Rader said. “We have an obligation to look out for each other. It is not worth it to engage in this type of behavior.”
He added that it is far better to sit in traffic than to risk tragedy or a lifetime in prison.

Rader concluded by calling for everyone to cherish the value of human life and to prevent rage from turning deadly behind the wheel.
